Funky, compact multi-tasking vehicles are all over the place these days. Where the subcompact station wagon once ruled the light-cargo roost, these days there are retro Chrysler PT Cruisers and Chevrolet HHRs, quirky micro-minivans like the Mazda5, and offerings with more contemporary style, like the Kia Rondo and Pontiac Vibe.   Full Story

The SUV market is splitting rapidly, with crossover vehicles taking the place of minivans. In this increasingly specialized market, there's not much room for a vehicle that attempts to please everyone while excelling at nothing.   Full Story

2008 Toyota Land Cruiser - a modernized classic in a changing market
It's hard to find fault with any aspect of the new Land Cruiser's on and off road credentials. We saw first hand that it had lost little if any of its famous off-road capability that has made it a vehicle of choice since the early 1950s for people navigating the Sahara Desert or an African jungle. And it's as powerful, comfortable and quiet as anything in the luxury SUV class when driven on pavement. ...[MORE]

Excitement returns to Pontiac with 2008 G8 GT
The newest Pontiac has a muscular yet conservative stance. The lines are clean, totally devoid of the tacky body cladding and other add-ons that have adorned recent Pontiac products. And there's no boy-racer wing attached to the trunk lid. An aggressive front air dam with foglights and twin hood scoops enhance the go-fast look. Two dual exhaust pipes speak louder than a wing.  ...[MORE]

Four-door truck doesn't have to be full size
Sales of pickup trucks are dropping precipitously this year because buyers don't want big, gasoline-guzzling vehicles. But the 2008 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab isn't a big, V-8 powered pickup truck. It's a mid-size pickup with strong V-6, an accommodating interior and two sizes of truck bed -- 5 and 6 feet long.  ...[MORE]

Kia minivan moves up in price
With a stronger engine, more features than ever and a roomier interior, the Kia Sedona is a much-improved minivan today compared with its first-generation model. So, why isn't the second-generation Sedona - with pleasing ride, attractive styling, comfortable seating for seven and top safety ratings - selling as well as its predecessor? ...[MORE]

Zero percent financing not always the best option
A new round of discount financing and the arrival of 2003 models are bringing car and truck buyers back into showrooms.

But in addition to kicking the tires and taking a test drive, consumers need to shop hard to make their way through an array of auto loans.

Despite a rocky economy, U.S. auto sales in August were up nearly 18 percent compared to a year ago and 2002 is shaping up as another strong year. ...[MORE]

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Marina del Rey attorney was sentenced Friday to seven years and eight months in prison for his role in an auto insurance fraud ring that stole about $3 million, officials said.
